 How do projections work?
BMD offers still images and animated videos as Scenic Projections™ and Digital Drops. Depending on your production requirements, one of these products will suit your needs! Select the show package or themed projections from our website and either checkout online or call us to complete your order at (800) 277-0343. All projections are available for specific dates and are delivered to you pre-made, ready for customization of timing and cue order. A projector is required to display the content during your performance. To control and cue the content, all animated video projections are delivered in pre-made playback hardware or software. There is no other source publicly available to provide a one-stop concierge service such as BMD. We were the first company to make projections commercially available to the theatre industry and continue to be the most innovative, professional, customer-oriented company in existence today.  Why projections?
Projections bring life and realism to scenic design and add dynamic cinematic energy to productions. Projections are cost effective compared to traditional costly backdrop rentals. Projections also provide a solution for theatres without a flyspace or organizations who lack a permanent venue. We could go on, and on and on. Projection design is a design discipline that is recognized industry-wide and is the future of theatrical storytelling. We are proud to be the very first company to make projections commercially available as an affordable, easy-to-use product.

What is the best projector for the stage?
The easiest way to find the perfect projector is to use our "Find a Projector Flowchart". Otherwise, consider the following: 1) Resolution: The more pixels, the higher quality. 2) Contrast Ratio: The difference between the dark and bright. The larger the number, the better the color. 3) Keystone: This feature allows you to distort the image. 4) Lens Shift: This allows you to move the lamp within the projector itself. 5) Throw Ratio: The distance from the lens to the surface. 6) Lumens: Just a fancy word for brightness. In general, we recommend above 5,000 lumens, however, certain lighting adjustments can make lower lumens work. Need some help? Call us at (800) 277-0343 for a free tech consultation.

Will you offer different designs for a single production?
Yes. In fact, we already do for a few productions. But our first goal is to create products for as many different productions as possible to ensure widespread access to Broadway-quality media. After that, we will start focusing more towards alternate designs for a single production.

What if I can't find my production?
Then tell us what you’re looking for on the “Request Artwork” page. Your production will be added to our list. If it’s a popular production that we think should be in our collection, we’ll add it to our design production queue. Once a design is ready, we will notify you. If your submitted title isn’t a popular production, we will await further requests until we see enough of a demand to produce it. We will send you an email when a new poster that you’ve requested is available on our website.

Technical

How do I keep shadows off the screen when using projections?
Place the projector above the actors and tilt it down toward the surface. The closer to the screen the better. You can mount your projector from a light bar, or house ceiling in some cases. You’ll need to use your projector’s ‘keystone’ setting to correct the image, as projecting at an angle can cause distortion.

 How bright are projections?
The projections themselves are only as bright as the projector they are being output from. BMD content is no different than any other video content in this basic sense, and if you want to test a projector to see if it is bright enough simply play a video through it, or request some test content from us.

What's the difference between front and rear projection?
Not much outside the projection surface. The majority of customers using BMD's projections utilize front-projection with short-throw projectors hung onstage above the actors and angled down to the projection surface. With new technology, most every stage space can accommodate projections. Need some help? Give us a call at (800) 277-0343 for a free consultation or email us here

How do I time projections to my play or musical?

We work very hard to make our products as easy to use as they are beautiful! We deliver pre-cued and programmed sequences that allows your to adjust the timing of each segmented video according to you live performance.

Can I run projections from an iPad?
Yes! With BMD's "StagePlayer" iPad app, which comes standard with an Animated Videos rental of Scenic Projections™.

How do I connect my iPad to my projector?
