Meet Bree Spicer

Hey everyone! Caitlyn here, your Community Manager. Today I want to take some time to introduce all of our readers to Bree Spicer, our new Creative Engineer!

Where are you from?

I am from Jackson, Michigan! I am a recent California transplant and I love it here.

How long have you been involved in the arts and what got you started?

I’ve been steadily drawing since the age of three, but started taking art much more seriously in high school. I was involved in everything creative that I could find, from designing posters for school events to float building. Creating has been my main outlet for as long as I can remember.

Have you ever been in musical or play (on-stage)?

I’m a very behind-the-scenes person, so I painted the sets. But I did have a single line in a play once since there weren’t enough students that tried out!

What is your favorite thing about your career?

The best part about working as an illustrator is that, when I’m working, it never actually feels like work. I’m so lucky that I’ve chosen a career path where I can continuously improve and look forward to going to work every day.

What are some of the things you do daily as a Creative Engineer?

A general day includes painting a digital drop, brainstorming compositions for new projects, storyboarding projection shows, and drinking a lot of coffee. There’s also quite a bit of collaboration and revision with colleagues.

What is your favorite project you’ve worked on in your time at BMD so far?

My favorite project has been a Treasure Map digital drop; it was super fun to design since it has a lot of contrasting elements (hand-drawn, watercolor, realistic) but still feels cohesive and interactive.

If you weren’t a Creative Engineer what would you be?

I was originally going to go to school for creative writing, so maybe a writer, but I would have also loved being a pastry chef.

Have you ever been in musical or play (on-stage)?

I’m a very behind-the-scenes person, so I painted the sets. But I did have a single line in Treasure Island since there weren’t enough students that tried out!

What is your favorite food?

Ice cream- any flavor.

Can you tell us about a special talent you have that isn’t related to your job here at BMD/art?

I am decent at playing the clarinet.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love reading, walking my dog, playing video games, cooking, and traveling!
